RENTON, Wash. – The 2011 WIAA Salute to Spirit presented by Farmers Insurance, and the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Cheerleading Championships kickoff the winter portion of the state championships, Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Comcast Arena at Everett.

Salute to Spirit, presented by Farmers Insurance, will showcase 18 high school dance/drill teams in 32 performances. The competition begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude with an award ceremony at 2:30 p.m. honoring the top performances for the following six categories; dance, hip hop, military, pom, show and kick.

The WIAA State Cheerleading Championships will begin at 3 p.m., with the award presentation scheduled at 8 p.m. to wrap-up the event. This year’s field is comprised of 52 high school squads that have qualified for one of the seven categories: Varsity Small, Varsity Medium, Varsity Large, Super Large, Coed Non-Tumbling Small and Non-Tumbling Large. 2011 marks the first time schools will be crowned champions in a specific classification. If four or more schools of the same classification qualify for a specific category, the classification will be awarded its own champion.

Tickets will be available on-site and include entry to both Salute to Spirit and the State Cheerleading Championships. Ticket prices for high school students with a valid ASB card and senior citizens are $7 per person, ticket prices for adults are $9 per person, and children under the age of five are free.
