2012-13 Season Reminders

Process for Sanctioning International Basketball Games
Please note that individual coaches or schools should not be scheduling and sanctioning international contests on their own accord.  Tim Kelly, boys basketball coach at Curtis High School and WSCA representative, saves the schools money by coordinating the games, with sanction applications submitted on behalf of the tour, rather than the game, and also prevents schools from violating WIAA handbook rule 17.26.0.  Each sanction application fee is a minimum of $200, depending upon when it is filed with the NFHS.

Reminder Regarding a 21st Basketball Game
Teams are allowed to play a 21st basketball game once every three years ONLY when scheduled and approved by the Washington State Coaches Association, the WIAA, and the National Federation of State High School Associations (WIAA handbook rule 17.26.0.) The application is processed online through the NFHS Website with fees required to be paid upon submission. If your school is considering hosting an international touring team during the 2012-13 season, please contact Tim at
tkelly@upsd.wednet.edu

Basketball Scorekeepers Now Required to Wear Black and White Stripes
In order for the official basketball scorekeeper to be easily identified by players checking into the game and the officials on the court, the scorekeeper is now required to wear a black and white vertically striped garment.  The scorekeeper may choose to wear an officials' black and white shirt or a pinny, either of which would be appropriate.
