Ronald Jones
Fine Arts

Ronald “Ron” Jones began his music education path at age fifteen, teaching guitar lessons after school. Following graduation from Pasco High School in 1968, he traveled just down the road to attend Eastern Washington University. In 1975, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. That same year, he accepted a position at Port Angeles High School as the high school Orchestra Director. At age twenty-five, he had begun a career that would last forty-two years.

When he arrived in Port Angeles, the orchestra program faced an early demise if young Jones could not bring in more student participants. The high school strings program had just thirteen students in 1975, but within a few years, that number doubled and then eventually tripled. Ronald’s main focus is students, ensuring every decision made is motivated by “what is best for the kids?”. Over the years he has gained many accomplishments such as, Washington Music Educator of the Year Award (2002), put into the WMEA Hall of Fame (2006), Pasco High School Hall of Fame (2006), Port Angeles Educational Foundation Distinguished Service Award (2010), and countless more.

By the time of Ronald’s retirement in June, 2017, the high school strings program included three orchestras and more than 160 students. His student-first mentality took the entire district program to new heights, as there are more than 700 strings students in the Port Angeles School District today. During his forty-two year tenure at Port Angeles HS, Ronald Jones has shown exemplary commitment, humility, and compassion for his students and the community.
