A 1957 graduate of Rearden High School, Bob Kirk has been involved in education and the promotion of interscholastic sports and activities for over 40 years.
Kirk’s career started in 1962 at Pomeroy High School. He began teaching math, social studies and traffic safety, as well as assistant coaching the football and basketball teams. Kirk soon moved into the head coaching position for the basketball team, as well as the role of Athletic Director, where he would stay for all 32 years of his teaching and coaching career.
Kirk is known to his community as a man of integrity, a strong communicator and someone who can relate to student-athletes, coaches, parents and administrators alike. With these skill-sets, Kirk went on to serve as the WIAA District 9 Director for 24 years, and still remains an important source of support and information for athletic directors throughout the state.
Throughout his time served, Kirk has received numerous awards, including both District 9 and WSSAAA Athletic Director of the year, NIAAA State Award of Merit, WSSAAA Hall of Fame induction and most recently, the WIAA Gareth Giles Award.
Kirk is still an avid and visible fan throughout Washington state high school sporting events, especially those that involve his grandchildren.
