High School Athletic Director Position Description: This position is a Classified Administrator who will be responsible for high school coaches and other classified staff as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration, Education, Business, Recreational Programs or related fields required. 2. A minimum of five years of successful experience in high school or collegiate coaching, with multiple sports experience is desired. 3. Demonstrated experience and success with facilities and event management. 4. Must be highly self-directed. 5. Demonstrated ability to: o Lead, supervise, mentor and motivate staff o Be proactive and demonstrate a high degree of energy and passion for education and athletics o Assess training needs o Design and deliver training programs o Assess and respond to athletic venue and facility issues o Lead discussions and make formal presentations o Effectively communicate both orally and in writing o Organize and communicate project tasks and timelines o Organizational and time management skills o Maintain confidentiality o Take initiative o Be resourceful, poised and tactful 6. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with community members, staff and students. 7. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting. 8. Ability to maintain confidentiality per district policy and state and federal laws. Performance Responsibilities: 1. Actively promote and support the District’s vision, mission, and initiatives at the District and site level. 2. Collaboratively develop and implement a shared vision and mission for high school athletics. 3. Implement and monitor all interscholastic rules and policies at the school, league, district, and state level. 4. Manage all related budgets to site athletics operations. 5. Assess, schedule, and oversee maintenance and repair needs for athletic facilities on a regular basis. 6. Coordinate and maintain accurate calendar of athletic activities in cooperation with building administrators, building Activities Director, Community Schools staff, and other building associated groups (PTSA, other…) using district technologies and web-based platforms. 7. Hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate head and assistant coaches for all sports programs. 8. Communicate with parents who may have grievances with coaches or program operations and serve as primary resolver of such problems. 3/28/2019 9. Validate and communicate eligibility status of athletes in all respects according to District and WIAA standards. 10. Provide support for development and confirmation for all team schedules annually. 11. Arrange transportation for all athletic contests away from site. 12. Attend regular meetings of league athletic directors and coordinate/publish sports schedules, and provide information to appropriate staff. 13. Coordinate with site corporate sponsors, Booster Clubs, Alumni groups, team parent groups, and other groups to enhance site facilities and programs. 14. Provide leadership and assistance to coaches in coordinating the set-up and operation of all home events. 15. Plan for and assist with supervision of extra-curricular athletic events in cooperation with building administration. 16. Provide presence for standard office hours, in addition to nights, weekends, holidays, and when athletic events are taking place within the site facility. 17. Responsible for planning and supervision of ticket taking and safe depositing of monies generated at athletic contests on site. 18. Recruit workers as needed for all aspects of the sports program including students, staff, parents, and community volunteers. 19. Encourage coaches and athletes to focus on academic achievement, as well as, success on the field or court. 20. Serve as an advocate for students. 21. Meet regularly with building administrative team and activity coordinator to resolve issues. 22. Serve as spokesperson for school athletics, including periodic interfacing with local media. 23. Maintain the master inventory for all site sports equipment. 24. Follow all school district procedures and policies in using school district and ASB funds. 25. Approve and help coordinate fundraisers related to the athletic program. 26. Develop and implement a plan for maintenance, purchase, and replacement of athletic equipment. 27. Report any school violations of WIAA rules to the league, district, and WIAA. 28. Model, encourage, and teach good sportsmanship. 29. Professionally interacts with students, staff and members of the public. 30. Uphold and assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy. 31. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 32. Requires the use of multiple communication and technology systems, which may include electronic mail, computers, document cameras, smart boards, and web-based resources. 33. Complies with all district policies and Code of Professional Conduct. 34. Performs other related duties as assigned.
