Ted Christensen
Fine Arts, Inglemoor High School, 1983-Present

Ted was born in Coupeville, Wash., in 1958. He attended Coupeville High School (Class of 1977) followed by Seattle Pacific University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Music Education (1981).  He continued his certification at the University of Washington (1985-89), and received his master’s degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., in 1993.

Ted has served with distinction as a teacher in the Northshore School District for close to three decades. He has been the Northshore School District Music Coordinator and Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) President for the past 27 years, where he has maintained and furthered a standard of leadership, program quality and high expectations.

The bands and orchestras under Ted’s direction have always been of superior quality, consistently earning nothing less than superior ratings and first place awards at regional, state and national music contests through his 30-year tenure at Inglemoor HS. He directed the 10-12 Band, Orchestra, Jazz ensemble, and marching band (1983-2000) and the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble (2000-present) at Inglemoor HS. Ted’s knowledge, instructional skills and technical expertise rank him among the top of his profession. Preparation, individual and collective accountability, and pride in representing their school are characteristics and lessons Ted teaches his performance groups.

He is a member of the Inglemoor International Baccalaureate teaching team and also served as music director at his church for over 15 years.  He was an associate director for the Beijing Olympic Orchestra and was a long-time active member of the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA).  An inductee in the WMEA Hall of Fame (2004), Ted was also honored by the NW Band Masters Association and received the Inglemoor PTSA – Golden Acorn Award (2010).

Ted has contributed to sustaining and spreading a culture of music appreciation and prominence across the state and country.
