LEAP – Welcome

LEAP

LEAP (Leadership through Education, Activities, and Personal Development), is a student leadership group comprised of student leaders from WIAA member schools throughout the state. Student representatives are involved with WIAA events, meetings and community projects, and have the unique opportunity to be the voice of Washington’s 225,000+ student-participants.

Each spring, the WIAA invites students who will be entering their JUNIOR year the following fall to apply. Eight students will be selected to join the Committee and participate throughout their junior and senior years. The application launches in the early spring and the annual deadline is MAY 31. For questions related to the LEAP Committee, please contact Andy Knapp.

QUESTIONS?

ANDY KNAPP - WIAA Director of Marketing

Know Before You Go – Welcome

We look forward to hosting you at a WIAA/Gesa Credit Union State Tournament. The following information is provided in order to make the experience more enjoyable for you and everyone at the event. In addition to general information that pertains to all events, you will also find site-specific information below.

FAN EXPECTATIONS

The WIAA supports social justice, racial equity, and sportsmanship. Derogatory cheers, slurs and hateful comments relating to identity (race, ethnicity, gender expression, disability, religion) are not permitted. Tournament managers and event personnel have the authority to remove individuals for inappropriate behavior or comments. If you witness any of the above behavior from those in attendance, you can report the incident to the WIAA via our Discrimination & Harassment Reporting Form.

Only school district-accepted cheers may be used at appropriate times. Cheers and chants are to be directed only toward your school’s team. Cheers or yells with degrading opponent implications and profanity will not be allowed.

Tournament sponsors, broadcast media coverage, official school banners and hand held signs that are positive and directed only toward the school’s team are permitted. Run through signs are not permitted.

These items prohibited and will be confiscated. Band instruments are to be used only for playing music under the direction of the conductor and megaphones may only be used by cheerleaders.

If outside paraphernalia is brought into the facility, schools may be billed for any additional clean-up costs.

Face painting may be allowed depending upon local school district policies and the tournament site/facility.

Only a student-costumed mascot, designated and approved by the school, is permissible.

Standing for prolonged lengths of time may be permissible at WIAA-sponsored athletic events, depending upon the tournament site/facility.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAV”), also known as drones, is prohibited for any purpose by any persons at WIAA tournament venues. Tournament management shall refuse admission or entry to anyone attempting to use a UAV; and if necessary, tournament management shall remove anyone attempting to use a UAV and/or confiscate the UAV until the event has been completed. For purposes of this policy, a UAV is any aircraft without a human pilot aboard the device.

TICKETS

The WIAA has transitioned to paperless ticketing with State Tournament tickets available for purchase digitally through GoFan, the WIAA’s ticketing partner. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance of the events, but will have the ability to purchase digital tickets onsite by accessing the GoFan digital ticketing site using their mobile devices. Limited paper tickets will be available at most sites day of the event. SERVICE FEES APPLY TO ALL TICKETS SOLD. The Tacoma Dome, Yakima Valley SunDome, and Spokane Arena manage their own tickets. Venue-imposed fees apply.

All spectators using WIAA-issued passes (paper or plastic) must enter through the Pass Gate. This includes teams/school personnel, event staff, media, corporate partners, and awards presenters. Anyone attempting to enter with a fraudulent event pass will be denied entry and may be subject to criminal trespass arrest. Anyone found with a fraudulent pass inside the facility will be removed and will be subject to criminal trespass arrest.

The school principal will appoint at least one school personnel member to supervise the school’s student body rooting section.

streaming

The NFHS Network will offer a LIVE stream of the majority of the WIAA’s State Tournament events. Unsanctioned live streaming of any WIAA event is PROHIBITED. Any such action is a direct violation of the WIAA/NFHS Network media rights and will not be allowed. This includes Facebook, YouTube and other similar streaming services.
