WIAA Winter Coalition to be Streamed Live

The WIAA will host its annual Winter Coalition meeting on Monday, January 25 in a virtual format. The event, which brings together school administrators from every WIAA district to discuss proposed amendments, will begin at 9 a.m. and will be streamed live on the WIAA Youtube Channel which can be accessed at Youtube.com/wiaawa.

Those watching the livestream will be able to view the introduction of each amendment as well as the votes on any revisions made to an amendment during the meeting. During a portion of the meeting, Representative Assembly members will be separated into breakout rooms to discuss each amendment in small groups, which cannot be viewed on the live stream.

Schedule Summary:

  • Opening Comments from WIAA Executive Director Mick Hoffman and Executive Board President Tim Thomsen
  • Report from WIAA Executive Board
  • State of the State Report
  • Amendment Presentation and Discussions
  • Gareth Giles Awards Presentation (2021 Recipient: Rob Swaim)

About Winter Coalition: Each year, Winter Coalition allows the WIAA Representative Assembly, along with WIAA District Directors, the WIAA Executive Board and other leaders from around the state, to discuss possible changes to WIAA governance and bylaws. Voting to pass amendments is not conducted at Winter Coalition. Instead, it is the first step of the process where the representative assembly can vote to revise the proposed amendments after receiving feedback from the group. The voting window to pass amendments will open this spring and run from April 29-May 7.

About the WIAA Representative Assembly: The Representative Assembly is comprised of 53 total members - 18 middle level members and 35 high school members. A sixty percent (60%) vote is needed to adopt an amendment. Middle level only amendments require 11 "yes" votes, high school only amendments require 21 "yes" votes, and middle level/high school joint amendments require 32 "yes" votes.
